Avoid Phishing and Fake Support Messages
Scammers may impersonate Mercado Sales, a buyer, a seller, a carrier, or a payment provider.
Be cautious when a message:
- Creates urgency or threatens account closure;
- Requests a password, verification code, banking information, or payment;
- Asks you to click an unexpected link or download an attachment;
- Claims that you must pay a fee outside Mercado Sales;
- Requests remote access to your computer or phone;
- Offers a refund, prize, or payment that appears unusually generous;
- Uses a misspelled or unfamiliar website address.
Access your account by entering www.mercadosales.com directly into your browser or using a trusted bookmark. Do not sign in through an unexpected email or text-message link.
If you receive a suspicious message claiming to be from Mercado Sales, do not reply or click anything. Contact Mercado Sales using the information at the end of this page.
Protect Personal and Financial Information
Do not send another user:
- Your password or verification codes;
- Your Social Security number or taxpayer identification number;
- Full bank-account or payment-card numbers;
- A photograph of your government-issued identification;
- Your account-recovery information;
- Other sensitive information not reasonably necessary for the transaction.
Submit identity, tax, bank, and payment information only through a secure Mercado Sales or authorized payment-provider page.
Mercado Sales does not currently provide prepaid shipping labels. A person claiming that you must pay Mercado Sales privately to receive a label may be attempting fraud.
Shopping Safely
Before purchasing:
- Read the complete title, description, condition, return terms, and shipping information.
- Examine every photograph carefully.
- Review the seller’s ratings and transaction history.
- Confirm the brand, model, size, measurements, specifications, and included accessories.
- Ask questions through Mercado Sales before paying.
- Be cautious of prices that appear unrealistically low.
- Never assume that a branded or expensive item is authentic based only on its price, title, or photographs.
When possible, a credit card may provide additional dispute protections, but all payments must be completed using a payment method supported at Mercado Sales checkout.
Branded and Luxury Products
Counterfeit, replica, unauthorized, or falsely branded products are prohibited.
When purchasing a branded or luxury item:
- Review labels, serial numbers, date codes, style numbers, materials, and identifying details.
- Request available proof of purchase or authenticity documentation.
- Compare the item with reliable information from the manufacturer.
- Carefully review the seller’s description of its condition and origin.
- Report suspicious branding or authenticity claims before purchasing.
Mercado Sales does not independently authenticate or guarantee every branded or luxury item unless a specific authentication service or guarantee is expressly stated in the individual listing.
Electronics and Mobile Devices
Before completing a transaction involving electronics:
- Confirm the exact model, storage capacity, carrier compatibility, and included accessories.
- Ask whether the device has been repaired, modified, financed, locked, or reported lost or stolen.
- Check an available IMEI, serial number, or activation status through the manufacturer or carrier when appropriate.
- Inspect and test the item before accepting or rating the transaction.
- Do not purchase a device that appears activation-locked or reported stolen.
Never attempt to access another person’s accounts or personal information stored on a device.
